SRINAGAR: Terming the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Notice to Syed Ali Geelani as biased and unrealistic, Hurriyat Conference on Sunday said Indian authorities have “crossed all democratic, constitutional and moral limits to satisfy their hatred against Kashmiris in general and leadership in particular”.
Conglomerate’s spokesperson in a statement said, “Hurriyat has made it clear long ago that during 2002 Income Tax raid at the residences of Syed Ali Geelani and his close relatives, no currency or any objectionable material was recovered and it was conveyed to the concerned authorities through his council.”
“Geelani Sahab and his party have a clear and open stand vis-a-vis Kashmir that this long standing dispute needs to be resolved peacefully in accordance with wishes and aspiration of its people. Harassing Hurriyat chairman through its agencies and putting him under the sponsored media trail, Indian autocracy will fail today as they have in the past.”
The spokesperson said that knitting “imaginary and baseless stories” and publicising them through “arrogant” media is nothing but to pressurise Geelani to toe their line.
“Geelani Sahab is not alien to jails, interrogations, tortures and solitary confinements and he has proved his mettle by his steadfastness and determination and he is not scared of such threats,” the spokesperson said. “Let the occupier and its local collaborators know that we will fight for our basic rights till the last breath and no power on earth can dare to stop us.”
“Circulating ED notice to media houses prior to our office strengthens our belief that this is a frustrated move to tarnish the image of Geelani Sahab and force him to subjugation,” he added. “More than a decade old case is still pending in the Income Tax department and before their decision, issuance of notice by ED amounts to arbitrariness.”
“Hurriyat once again makes it clear that paid media, ruthless agencies and inhuman armed forces along with their local stooges may try whatever they can but will never deter us from pursuing our right cause,” the Hurriyat spokesperson said. “We can never think of betraying or ignoring the countless sacrifices of our people and we will stand by them through every thick and thin, Insha Allah.”\
