Anantnag: A badly maimed body of a Pakistani militant, as per a letter found on the body, was found on Saturday by locals in Tral town of Pulwama.
The letter found on the body, handwritten in Urdu, identified the slain as Umar Khattab of Pakistan, a Jaish-e-Muhammad militant.
According to local sources in Tral, the body was found in the Eidgah ground in main Tral town early Saturday morning.
“Locals spotted the body wrapped in a blanket and a letter placed over it, which urged the villagers to bury the body,” a source said.
The locals, however, intimated the police and the body was later taken to Srinagar by police for a post-mortem.
“Yes, a body was found. As per the letter found on it, the militant had died in Tral forests while he fiddled with explosives to make a landmine,” a senior police officer in Tral told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the body was taken to Srinagar for post-mortem and DNA samples will be taken for a proper identification process.
“It will be later buried,” the officer said.
In Tral, people observed a complete shutdown to mourn the death of the militant.
