Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday directed the state authorities to close down all coaching centers that are violating the rules prescribed by the government for functioning.
The court observed that rules have to be adhered as it was the matter of education, which can’t be handled leniently.
Hearing the PIL on coaching centers,the division bench comprising of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said, “Divisional commissioners of the respective divisions wherefrom they find any coaching center is not adhering to the rules shall seal that center and report compliance.”
The court issued the orders after it was observed that the authorities have failed to regulate the private tuition centers.
“Day in and day out, the newspapers carry stories about the exploitation and non-adherence of the rules by private tuition centers,” remarked the bench.
Direction was also passed to Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to constitute a team of officers to conduct a visit and check about the facilities being provided to students, the fee charged to a student and whether the rules are followed by them or not.
The team was ordered to submit the report on next date of hearing on December 27.
The directors of school education were told to prepare the list of private coaching centres within four days.
