Srinagar: Army on Wednesday said that efforts continue to find the five soldiers who went missing after a snow avalanche incident late Monday night.
Srinagar-based army spokesperson Col Rajesh Kalia told Kashmir Reader that the rescue operation is on at two places near the Line of Control in Kupwara and Bandipora districts.
“Our men are at work and so far we have not been able to find our five missing soldiers,” Kalia said.
On late Monday night, two army soldiers of the 17 infantry brigade based in Kupwara’s Nowgam sector slipped down from their post after being hit by a heavy amount of snow. “The search is taking time because the terrain there is very tough,” sources in the army told Kashmir Reader.
The same night, a patrol party of the army’s 36 RR was hit by an avalanche and three of its soldiers are since missing. The patrol party was hit near Nani Post in Baktoor area which has been cut off from the main Kashmir valley due to heavy snowfall.
