Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on Monday issued notices to the top police brass asking them to explain the reason for Comiti’s arrest.
Activist Muhammad Ahsan Untoo had filed a petition (vide number 395) before the SHRC on Monday, asking that the government clarify whether any foreign journalist has the right to highlight human rights issues in Kashmir Valley or not.
The petitioner described the detention of the French journalist as “illegal” and requested the SHRC to direct the government to produce the arrested journalist before the commission.
Acting upon the petition, SHRC Chairman Retired Justice Bilal Ahmed Nazki issued notices to Kashmir Inspector General of Police, SSP Srinagar, and SP East, directing them to clarify their stand on the issue.
The case has been listed for hearing on December 18.
