SHOPIAN: SHOPIAN: The postal services in south Kashmir’s Shopian district are available in archaic manner as people get delayed consignments and often the delivery boys call the addressees to fetch their packets from the office.
Local residents said the post office at Shopian was not doing its job properly and the employees often forget to deliver the services and if they do, it is in a much delayed manner.
Muntazir Ahmad, a local said that he mailed some important documents via speed post of ‘Indian Post’ but till date neither the documents reached to the destination nor the officials at post office Shopian offer any explanation for the delay.. He said that the men at Indian post in Shopian are callous resulting to immense suffering to the people.
Rahie Jan, another local resident told Kashmir Reader that she is waiting for her PAN card for a month but it is not being delivered. “While tracking the PAN card I found that the card is at post office Shopian. I went there but the employees said the card would be delivered at my home. I am waiting for the card but it is not arriving. My bank account has been suspended for want of the PAN card,” she said.
Locals said that the postmen instead of delivering the products at the doorsteps are asking the consumers to visit their homes for receiving goods. “I ordered some books which were supposed to be delivered through Indian post, the books reached after two months when my exams were over,” said another resident.
Consumers also allege that the officials at post office Shopian are often overcharging for the speed post and other services. Suhail Ahmad, another villager said that the employees overcharge for the services and sometimes give excuses that they have no change for bigger notes.
No official from the postal department could be reached for comment.
