JRL’s UN march foiled; Malik arrested, reads memo to media

Srinagar: The government on Sunday foiled a protest march towards UNMOGIP office here bey arresting senior resistance leader, Mohammad Yasin Malik from Maisuma here.

However, Malik read the memorandum the joint resistance leadership (JRL) had prepared to submit with the office bearers of UNMOGIP posted here on this side of Line of Control (LoC).

Kashmir valley is observing a complete shutdown today when world is observing international human rights day. The JRL had asked peole to stay indoors to protest “criminal silence of international community over Kashmir rights situation”.

Hurriyat Conference chaiperson, Syed Ali Geelani and senior resistance leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were put under house detention at their respective residences. But Malik had gone under-ground and appeared today at Masjid Shaikh Hamza (RA) from where he went to Maisuma to take out protest march.

Reports said that soon as Malik was detained by police, women from the area raised pro-freedom slogans.
