SRINAGAR: On the appeal of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is the head of his Hurriyat Conference and Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema, an amalgam of various religious organisations, massive protest rallies were held across Kashmir against the US president Donald Trump’s decision of giving recognition to Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
A statement issued here said a resolution framed by MMU was read and passed unanimously in almost all the major masajids, shrines and imam baras of Jammu Kashmir. “In Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Budgam, Pulwama, Baramulla, Shopian, Kulgam, Sopore, Qazigund, Anantnag, Banihal, Kargil, Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, the MMU resolution was read and passed amid condemning US president Trump’s unilateral decision,” the statement said.
“The imams of all the mosques and shrines expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine in this hour of grave injustice and extended full support of the people of Palestine stating that entire Muslim world feels hurt by the dictatorial decision of US president,” it said.
The MMU in a statement also strongly condemned the government’s decision of caging Mirwaiz and turning majority of downtown areas into “military garrison” on the eve of Friday following Eid-e-Milad-un Nabi (SAW).
The statement termed government’s decision of placing Mirwaiz under house detention as “repressive measure”, saying that converting the entire downtown into a garrison reflects the “autocratic mindset” of authorities.
The MMU strongly denounced government’s decision of foiling the Rehmatal-lil-Alameen (SAW) conference that was supposed to take place in the historic Jamia Masjid in the wake of sacred month of Rabi-ul-Awal.
“The move amounts to direct religious interference. It is biggest shame for government that people of Kashmir were barred from paying tributes to revered Prophet Muhammad (SAW),” the MMU said.
