Anantnag: Intense clashes erupted on Friday evening in Churath village of Kulgam district as government forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), suspecting presence of militants in the area.
Forces used aerial firing and tear smoke shelling to disperse protesting locals, who retaliated with stone throwing. However, there were no inputs of any injuries caused during the clashes.
According to reports a CASO was launched at about 5:15 PM on Friday evening in Churath village near Qazigund.
“There were inputs regarding presence of militants in the area,” a police official from the area told Kashmir Reader.
He however said that contact was yet to be established with the militants.
“The situation now is under control but no contact has been established with the militants,” the official said.
The CASO was on while this report was being filed. The clashes however died down as darkness engulfed.
