Srinagar: Police have arrested or detained dozens of pro-freedom activists and leaders ahead of the protests against the US President Donald Trump’s decision of announcing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The call for protests has been given by the Joint Resistance leaders, Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Faroq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
Sources said that as Geelani remains under arrest since 2010, authorities placed Mirwaiz under house detention last evening.
Police also detained Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) general secretary Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in his Baghat residence, sources said.
Many Hurriyat Conference (G) activists including Muhammad Yaseen Attai, Syed Imtiyaz Hyder and Mohammad Yousuf Bhat were arrested late laat night and lodged at Police Station Budgam, sources said.
