SRINAGAR: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Syed Altaf Aijaz Andrabi on Thursday visited Florist Nursery, Hot House and extension wing of Florist Development Scheme at Lalmandi Srinagar.
He took stock of all the developmental and other mandated activities carried out by the extension wing, an official handout read.
According to the handout, the floriculture wing was carrying out cultivation of Rose Marry and Scented Geranium on commercial lines, besides cultivation of Lavender, Bulgaria Roses and other ornamental crops.
While expressing his views, director agriculture impressed upon the concerned officers to “identify and explore the avenues for the promotion and development of different types of floral species, herbs and shrubs and their multiplication on commercial lines”, so that this allied wing of Agriculture could also contribute to the employment generation for the unemployed youth of the state.
He called upon the officers to “work for the promotion of entrepreneurship in this allied wing so that more youth can be involved in this business”. He further insisted upon the concerned officers to encourage innovative ideas in the said field and make efforts to include different types of new floral species in the present spectrum.
Director agriculture also highlighted the need for organising training programmes for unemployed youth to incorporate expertise and make them skilful in different activities of floriculture, the handout added.
