Resistance leadership calls for protests on Friday, Shutdown on Sunday

Srinagar: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) on Thursday condemned the US president’s decision declaring Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel.

The leadership in a statement said, “Kashmiris are and will continue protesting against this horrible US decision and will stage peaceful protests across the valley on December 8, after Friday prayers.”

The leadership called for a shutdown on December 10, on the international human rights day. The leaders said that for last seventy years, people of Jammu and Kashmir are facing Indian “aggression and oppression”.

“Lakhs of people have been killed and this killing spree is continuing unabated. Thousands of young and old have disappeared in custody, thousands of unmarked graves bear witness to extrajudicial killings, attacks on the chastity of women are being used as a weapon of war and thousands of innocents have been going through jails and incarcerations.”

The leaders said that on December 10, Kashmiris will observe a complete shutdown and blackout to protest against “gross human rights violations” and the criminal silence of the international community.
The statement said that JRL leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik will lead a protest rally from Hamza Masjid Kokarbazar Lal Chowk towards UN observers’ office at Srinagar where a memorandum will be handed over to UN representative.
A seminar will also be held in this connection on Saturday, December 9, in which human rights abuses in Jammu Kashmir will be highlighted.
The seminar titled ‘human rights violations in Kashmir and Criminal silence of the international community’ will be held at Hyderpora (residence cum office of Syed Ali Geelani), the statement said.
