Srinagar: The Met department has sounded an alert of an active western disturbance between December 12 and 15 which is likely to cause widespread moderate-to-heavy rain or snow across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the weather alert issued by Director of J&K Meteorology Department Sonam Lotus, a fresh western disturbance is approaching the state and is likely to affect the weather from December 11 to 15.
“Under the influence of this system, moderate to heavy rain/ snow is expected at widespread places of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh region,” Lotus said.
He said the main activity of the disturbance is likely to occur during December 12 to 13.
The Met department also sounded a warning that the weather disturbance will likely disrupt surface and air transport.
“Higher reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh and hilly areas of Jammu are most likely to receive moderate to heavy snowfall during the period of December 12 to 13,” Lotus said
Soon after the Met warning was issued, the disaster management department issued instructions to the civil administration to be ready for meeting any eventuality.
“We have issued directions to the deputy commissioners, the divisional commissioners, the mechanical engineering department, the Srinagar municipal commissioner, and the roads department to be ready with men and machinery in view of the weather advisory,” said Director, Disaster Management, Amir Ali.
He said that snow-clearance vehicles have been deputed in all the districts.
