Srinagar: After remaining active on social media for over a year posting beautifully captured drone videos of the prime and the newly developed tourists destinations of the state, the department of tourism has also developed a comprehensive website to keep pace with modern technology and also keep tourists and locals updated on latest developments.
The website https://www.jktourism.jk.gov.in/ is being developed by National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), erstwhile known as the DOEACC Society, which is an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the government of India.
It is also hosted on dedicated National Informatics Centre hosting infrastructure. This hosting is provided to a large number of e-governance projects like CGHS, AGMARKNET(Agriculture and Farmers Welfare),MGNREGA (Rural Development), CourtNIC ( Supreme Court/High Court – Disposed & Pending Case Status), Exam Results Portal, Online Counseling to Admission to various professional courses across the country etc.
The website will be formally launched soon.
However, it is live and posts are updated on daily basis having all the information of the known and lesser known destinations of all the three regions of the state.
The events and the festivals to be organised by the department of tourism are also updated on website so that tourists can sync their vacation with the festivals in the state.
A section has been dedicated for the state’s rich art and craft where the visitors can get information from Pashmina shawl to carpets, willow works, paper Mache, embroidery or wood carving etc. It also takes visitors to a virtual tour of the famous and most sought after destinations like Gulmarg through videos.
For the adventure lovers a section has been dedicated informing about the activities like hiking, mountaineering, skiing, paragliding, mountain biking etc.
The website is still in the process of development and in order to make it more vibrant, the department has already sought suggestions from its allied departments and the travel trade and hospitality sector.
The department’s social media handles which remain updated every 30 minutes have also been integrated with the website.
After receiving the viable suggestions, the department will also launch its mobile app for wider access and visibility of the state’s tourism department.
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah said the department has been in the process of making the website which is almost complete and will be officially launched soon.
“We will soon launch the website which will be fully vibrant and visitors will have all the updated information at their finger tips. We are already active on social media where we get thousands of comments, suggestions and enquiries every day. We want to promote our state’s tourism products on every platform,” said Director Tourism Kashmir.
