PULWAMA: Clashes between protestors and government forces erupted in south Kashmir’s Pulwama after forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Naira and Tahab villages on Saturday morning, police and local residents said.
Sources said that the CASO was laid after inputs about the presence of militants in the villages, and said that some youth attacked forces with stones in Tahab village.
The forces also came across stone pelting at Trichal village, after which residents said, they smashed window panes of several residential houses.
Forces resorted to teargas shelling and aerial firing against the stone-pelting protestors, local residents said.
They said that youth attacked forces’ vehicles with stones as they returned from CASO at Tahab and Trichal villages.
Meanwhile, government forces on Saturday afternoon also launched a search operation at Tral in Pulwama district, sources said.
They said that following specific information about the presence of militants at Arigam in Tral, a joint search operation was launched by the Special Operations Group, the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force this evening.
A house-to-house search operation was carried out at Arigam village and in adjoining areas, fields and orchards.
