Basharat Burkhari seeks measures to address shortage of fertilisers

JAMMU: To resolve the concern of farmers and fruit growers regarding shortage of fertilisers in the valley, Minister for Horticulture, Syed Basharat Burkhari has sought intervention of government of India’s (GoI’s) Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar
In his communication to the GoI minister, Basharat Bukhari urged for early action on the issue of allowing fertiliser companies to transport the fertiliser from Jammu/Udhampur Rack Point to the Kashmir Valley besides Railway Out Agency (ROA) to facilitate the farmers with adequate and timely supply of fertilisers, an official handout issued on Wednesday read.
Representatives of Apple Growers Associations had called upon the horticulture minister regarding shortage of fertilisers in the valley due to lack of proper infrastructure and transportation facilities at Udhampur Rack Point, causing inordinate delay in the transportation of fertilisers to Kashmir Valley, especially during the peak months of the season leading to irreparable loss, the handout added.
