Condoles demise of Om Saraf
SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday paid glowing tributes to late journalists Khwaja Sanaullah Bhat and Sofi Ghulam Muhammad on their death anniversaries saying both were the pioneers of journalism in Kashmir and their contribution to its growth and development in the state is immense.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said their in-depth understanding of political and social issues facing the people and the manner in which they portrayed it shows their literary capabilities as well as their close connect with people especially the common masses. “People of Kashmir will always remember these great sons of the soil with respect and affection,” he said.
Mirwaiz also expressed condolence over the demise of veteran journalist and social activist Om Saraf saying the late journalist had close relations with ‘Shaheed e Millat’ Mirwaiz Farooq as they both shared common concern for rights of the downtrodden and harmony and goodwill among all communities living in the state.
A party delegation led by Mir Ghulam Rasool visited the house of late Om Saraf in Jammu and conveyed Mirwaiz’s condolences and sympathies with his son Pushp Saraf and other members of the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, the conglomerate’s spokesperson has strongly condemned the continuous house detention of Mirwaiz and “caging a huge population in their homes” by imposing curfew-like restrictions in Srinagar parts including downtown.
“These acts reflect the dictatorial attitude adopted by the government aimed at weakening the popular political sentiment of the people of Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
