BUDGAM: Spectators raised pro-Shahid Afridi, pro-freedom and pro-Kashmir slogans while star Indian cricketer and former team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was at the Kunzer cricket ground in Baramulla on Sunday. Dhoni, who has been honoured with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army, was the chief guest at the final match of the Indian Army-organised Chinar Premier League.
Addressing a press conference after the match, Dhoni said, “I am very thankful to the crowd, the players and all the people present here for showing a lot of love for my presence.”
“The army has started a good thing in Kashmir by organising many sports tournaments which have engaged the Kashmiri youths’ energy in the right way,” he said.
When asked about the prospects of India playing cricket with Pakistan, he said that a cricket series with Pakistan is a “diplomatic and political” decision.
“We should let the government decide whether to organise bilateral series with Pakistan or not,” he said.
Dhoni asked the local players to concentrate on fitness and said that opportunities will definitely come to them.
The final of the Chinar Premier League 2017 was played between teams of North and South Kashmir at the sprawling Kunzer Cricket Ground in Baramulla. South Zone defeated North Zone by 50 runs.
A total of 110 teams from across the Valley participated in this year’s tournament.
