Handwara: Police in Handwara have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife a year after their marriage. Police said they would approach the district magistrate for exhumation of the body for post mortem.
The person identified as Sajad Ahmad Khan son of Miskeen Khan, a resident of Puthwari village of Handwara has been arrested and booked on murder charges. An FIR No 72/2017 under section 302 RPC has been filed against the accused.
Talking to reporters, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Handwara Shabir Ahmad Khan said that a few days back a lady died under mysterious circumstances and police began inquest proceedings under section 174 CRPC. “After getting some clues it surfaced that prima facie it was a murder case. We converted the inquest proceedings into an FIR to probe the murder angle. During the investigation it surfaced that she was killed by her husband. It surfaced that she was killed by her husband,” Khan said adding that the accused has been arrested.
He said the police have written to deputy commissioner Kupwara for exhumation of the body and we assure that investigation would be concluded on merits in minimum possible time.
He said the couple had married a year ago and police are probing as to how their relationship has been during this period of time.
