Budgam: Teachers, students and parents in Budgam district have expressed resentment over the failure of Board of School Education (BOSE) in providing textbooks for new academic session.
Despite the commencement of new academic session some weeks back, the schools have not received new textbooks.
“We have not received a single textbook yet. We have been teaching from the old books since the first day,” a teacher from Khag zone told Kashmir Reader.
“To overcome the shortage we have asked students to return their old books for the benefit of new students so that they can take their classes regularly. Both students and teachers are facing lot of hardships without adequate textbooks,” he said.
Another teacher from Beerwah said that earlier Board used to distribute almost half of the number of books in winter and half in spring, “but this year we have not received even a single book till date”.
Joint Secretary (Publication), BOSE, Mohammad Arif Akhoon, said that there was no shortage of books, but they were distributing it in phases.
“Our first priority was to supply books to far flung areas like Ladakh, Zanskar, Kupwara, Gurez, and other places because they get snow earlier.” Akhoon said.
“BOSE has devised an area wise calendar for distribution of books. The distribution process will end this week,” he added.
