SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Monday directed State government to furnish status report of investigation against Major Leetul Gogoi in human shield case within two weeks.
The directions were made by court after Senior Counsel, Zaffar Qureshi pleaded before court that it is immensely unfortunate that justice is not being done with victim Farooq Ahmed Dar despite of the fact that the accused Army Major has been identified in this case.
Advocate Zaffar said, “The case needs to be investigated on fast track basis so that the culprit can be punished for this inhuman act. Statements of seven witnesses have been recorded including victim Farooq Dar but why police is unable to file charges against the accused.”
Meanwhile, State counsel, advocate BA Dar submitted before court that the police is investigation the matter.
Farooq Dar who was present at the hearing said, “I am hopeful that court will do justice with me and will punish the culprit Army Major.”
On 9th April,2017 the day when Srinagar-Budgam constituency went for parliamentary elections, Farooq Dar was tied to the bonnet of the jeep by the Army Major and was paraded in several villages.
The petition filed by the victim states that after the incident, he was diagnosed with acute stress disorder by physiatrist consultant and police is not helping in investigation of the matter.
The petitioner requested the ‘SSP budgam and SHO Beerwah to complete the investigation of the case with statement of the witnesses, the person who is involved is identified, the vehicle is identified but still the challan is not being produced before the court.’
