Sonamarg: Srinagar-Leh national highway was re-opened for traffic on Sunday three days after the road was closed due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
Officials said that traffic on the Srinagar-Leh national highway was suspended on Firday late evening following snowfall at Zojilla pass. The road had become slippery due to snowfall. However, after improvement in the weather, the snow had melted and road became operational.
Officials said light motor vehicles are allowed to move from Sonamrag towards Kargil after stranded vehicles were evacuated from the Zojila pass on Sunday afternoon. Officials said 130 stranded vehicles including passenger vehicles and trucks carrying 60 persons including some ITBP personnel had been trapped in Zojila area last night due to strong winds and slippery conditions.
