Sonamarg: Srinagar-Leh highway was re-opened for traffic on Sunday, two and a half days after the road was closed due to heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass.
Officals said that traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway was suspended on Firday late evening following snowfall at Zojilla pass.
The road had become slippery due to snowfall, an official said.
However, he said that due to improvement in the weather, the snow had melted and road become operational.
The officals said that the they are allowing light motor vehicles to move from Sonamarg towords Kargil after stranded vehicles will be evacuated from the Zojila pass this afternoon.
They said, “130 stranded vehicles including passenger vehicles and trucks including 60 persons including some ITBP personnel were stranded and stuck at Zojila pass last night due to strong winds and slippery conditions.”
“They were on way to Srinagar from Ladakh when rescued by a police party from sonamarag police station and were passed off to safely Sonamrag this afternoon,” the officials said.
