Kulgam operation in ‘concluding stages’ on Day 3

Kulgam: The hunt for militants in forest areas near Haalan-Kond village of Qazigund, in Kulgam district, continued for the third straight day on Thursday, though no contact had been established with militants for more than 24 hours by the evening.
“It’s in the concluding stages. But yes, it’s yet to be declared over officially,” a senior police official from Kulgam district told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the forces are being withdrawn in a phased manner.
“We had inputs that two more militants were holed up in the woods. That’s why the operation was prolonged. They might have escaped by now,” the official said.
Hizbul Mujahideen militant Muzammil Manzoor Dar of Badroo Yaripora was killed on Tuesday in the initial gunfight at the site. Three other militants, one of them in an injured condition, were arrested in the area on Wednesday. The details of the arrests were given out by Kashmir Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Munir Khan at a presser in Srinagar today.
Khan identified the arrested militants as Atta Mohammad Malik, Shamsul Viqar and Bilal Sheikh.
He said that Atta was arrested in an injured state and he is currently in hospital.
“We think two more militants are still hiding in the area so the operation is going on,” Khan told reporters in Srinagar.
