Srinagar: The employees of urban local bodies have called for a strike on 13 and 14 November to press for redress of their demands and said the employees would protest in all municipal institutions of Kashmir. On Nov 15, they said, the employees would assemble at Press Enclave and march towards divisional commissioner’s office to present a memorandum.
“Our service issues, matters are not being disposed off in the directorate, leaving the employees high and dry,” President (J&KEUF), Manzoor Pampori said.
He said the employees, especially the lower rung employees, have been providing basic civic amenities to the inhabitants of the state with utmost dedication, but “despite that their demands have not been addressed by the authorities till date”.
He added that the government recently transferred the director of Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir, to Srinagar Municipal Corporation without posting any substitute, rendering the department headless.
He said that a General Council Meeting of the employee forum on November 7 decided to go for a strike on November 13 and 14.
“In case the pending demands already submitted to the government are not redressed, the Employee’s Forum will have no other option left, but to halt the services in all Municipal Bodies of the Kashmir Division along with the Directorate and to proceed for peaceful protests, strike for redressal of their pending genuine issues from 13 November, with full support from EJAC (Q) headed by Abdul Qayoom Wani and Srinagar Municipal Corporation union headed by Mohammad Maqbool Malik,” he said.
