DCJ films awarded at KWFF

VC, registrar felicitate students, faculty

Srinagar: Central University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, on Monday lauded students of the Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ) for bagging awards for their films at Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) and congratulated the department for the same.
The awards were announced on November 5, 2017 during a ceremony held at Tagore Hall wherein the District Development Commission Srinagar, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah handed over the prizes to the winners, a statement issued by the university said.
Out of four entries sent by the department, two bagged the awards. ‘The Lake Town’ by Sana Irshad, Sadiq Hussain and Muzamil Ahmad was adjudged as Best Film and ‘Bhangaar Bazaar’ by Khursheed Ahmad and Muqeet ul Amin was selected for Special Jury Award. The films were made by students as part of their capstone media project.
Expressing his pleasure, vice-chancellor said, “This is a proud moment for the whole University. I am glad that our students are making mark in the field and are putting in efforts to highlight the problems and issues confronting society through award winning documentaries.”
Registrar and Dean School of Media Studies, Prof. M. Afzal Zargar, also hailed the students and the faculty members for the achieving the feat. “In such a festival where films from different parts of the country were screened and evaluated by the experts from the industry, we are proud that the films made by students were awarded.” He said that our students are enormously talented and their talent needs to be channelized.
Dean School of Education and Director IQAC, Prof N. A Nadeem said the DCJ is a flagship programme of the varsity and stressed the need to focus more on the practical exercises.
Coordinator, DCJ, Dr. Asif Khan expressed gratitude to the senior functionaries and briefed them about the films, theme selection and work of the students. “It was a complete team work of faculty, students and production staff of the department with active support from the university administration that made these awards possible,” he said.
Sana Irshad and Muqeet ul Amin also thanked the faculty and authorities of the university for providing the opportunity to the students in the shape of resources and encouragement.
