Two-week research methodology workshop begins at the university
Srinagar: Central University of Kashmir Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mehraj ud Din Mir, on Monday said that the university would never compromise on the quality of research undertaken by the scholars of different departments.
“You must necessarily go to the field to gather data for conducting research, then only your findings will be authentic and relevant to the society,” Prof. Mir told scholars at the inaugural session of a two-week Research Methodology Workshop. The workshop is organized by the Department of Management Studies at Nowgam-I academic block of the university, a statement by the university said.
Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani, Dean School of Business Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz, Head Department of Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Deans of other Schools, Heads and Coordinators of different departments and research scholars were also present on the occasion.
Prof. Mir asked the scholars to choose the topic for research on their own and subsequently justify the reason for selecting it. He said the main purpose and objective of the research is to solve the problems confronted by the masses, adding, that the standard of the university is gauged by the quality of the research produced by it. CUK Vice-Chancellor also asked senior faculty members to share their experiences and expertise with regard to their earlier research findings and the extent to which it has been implemented on the ground.
Prof. Zargar, described research as the backbone of any institution, particularly the universities and said the institutions are ranked across the world by the kind of research output. He said the research has to be strictly based on the problems and burning issues confronted by the society in the contemporary times. He added that the number of scholars in the university has also increased manifold and the varsity was providing all possible facilities to facilitate their research work.
Director Research and Development, Prof. Abdul Gani while addressing the gathering said the varsity has constituted Central Research Council, which has taken several important decisions to facilitate the scholars in conducting and producing quality research work. He said the CRC would work for creating good research culture in the varsity and has already introduced steps like procurement of anti-plagiarism software. He asked the scholars to prepare the executive summary of their research so that it could be submitted to the concerned government institutions and agencies for implementation and further compliance.
Dean, School of Business Studies, and Head Department of Tourism Studies, Prof. S Fayyaz said that it is a proud moment for the Department of Management Studies for holding the fourth such workshop in a row. He said that this time the scholars have been invited from five different departments of the university. He said the objective of the workshop is to make scholars aware about the different types of research methodologies.
Head Department of Management Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah while welcoming the guests said the department has invited a galaxy of experts from within and outside the state to share their expertise and experiences to the scholars and clear their doubts and answer queries regarding the conduct of the research.
Senior Assistant Professor, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Lone conducted the programme proceedings while as Senior Assistant Professor, Dr. Zia ul Haq proposed the vote of thanks.
