Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chief of Hurriyat Conference (M), on Saturday said that tourism in Downtown Srinagar need to be promoted.
After inagurating first of its kind three-storey Cafe, named after Downtown, Mirwaiz expressed hope that such endeavours will be “image-makeover” of Old City which remains under seige on most Fridays and whenever Kashmir observes shutdown.
‘Cafe Downtown’ is situated at main chowk Gojwara can accomodate 90 visitors at a time and has separate facility for families.
“It will send a positive signal (to tourists),” he said.
Mirwaiz said that this was an opportunity to cope up with unemployment in Kashmir. He said this in conversation with the owners of the Cafe who come from Pampore area of Pulwama district.
The Cafe has five chefs and equal number of waiters, all of them are locals.
