Two CRPF soldiers wounded by bullets; Lashkar claims attack
Anantnag: Five CRPF soldiers were injured when militants attacked their convoy, here in Lazibal area of Anantnag town on Thursday morning.
Two of the injured have bullet wounds. The other three have been injured by the shattered glass of the vehicles they were travelling in.
As per police reports, the convoy of six buses belonged to the Mattan-based 96 Bn of the CRPF.
“They were on their way back to Mattan when militants struck at about 8:30 today morning,” a senior police official told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the attack was carried out along the busy Khannabal-Pahalgam (KP) road in Lazibal area.
“Two CRPF men have received bullet injuries in the attack,” the official said.
A CRPF spokesperson said that the injured were stable.
He identified the two men injured with bullets as Constable SK Mahesh and Head Constable Indrajeet Singh, both from the 96 Bn.
The firing created panic in the area as people ran for their lives.
Following the firing, huge contingents of government forces reached the area and cordoned off Lazibal and Anchidora area in the vicinity.
The cordon remained intact for a couple of hours before the forces were withdrawn.
The Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
