Budgam: People from a cross section of society met the Budgam Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police on Saturday to voice their demand that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stop harassing the family of Syed Salahuddin, the United Jihad Council’s supreme commander.
The civil society members included Advocate Hafizullah Mir, retired chief audit officer Abdul Rahim Malik, retired bureaucrat Ghulam Rasool Malik, renowned columnist M J Lone, and former General Manager of JK Bank, Syed Abdul Hamid.
During the meet, sources said, the civil society members alleged that NIA has been harassing family members of Syed Salahuddin even though they are innocent.
Salahuddin is also the chief of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit.
The civil society members said that the family members of Syed Salahuddin have been living in peace and the arrest of Salahuddin’s son Shahid Yousuf, and another NIA summons to his grandson, constituted harassment.
The civil society members said they would court arrest if the NIA did not stop harassing Salahuddin’s family. They also demanded that NIA should return all the five cell phones and Shahid’s laptop that NIA sleuths seized during a raid on Shahid’s home at Soibugh Budgam.
“We will court arrest and the responsibility of any untoward incident will lie with the state government,” they said.
