Sonamarg: The department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing (EERS) organized a seminar on international day of climate action in collaboration with Sonamarg Development Authority at Sonamarg on Saturday.
Local residents from Sonamag Shutkadi, Nilgrath Sarbal besides hoteliers, shopkeepers, transporters, and ponywallas participated in the program.
Director EERS, O P Sharma spelled out the importance of local herbs like Nunar, Pumbhak, Sochal, Hund, Abug. He talked about their domestic use as well as commercial value, which he said can boost economic condition of people while besides being an additional attraction for the tourists.
Major Tivari from RR115 TA gave suggestions for protection of the environment with the focus on quality of the Sind water. He assured full support from army to protect the environment and setting up of necessary arrangements at the all army camps at Sonamarg with proper treatment to solid waste.
Chief Executive Officer Sonamarg Development Authority Shabir Ahmad Raina expressed thanks to the EERS for conducting such programme which he said would surely help to protect the environment and ensure eco-friendly atmosphere at the tourist destination.
