Be ready for mass agitation, JRL tells people

Any move against the state subject law will create Palesntine-like situation in J&K

SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) on Sunday asked people to launch a mass agitation if the Supreme Court delivers verdict on Article 35-A against the interests and aspirations of people of Jammu Kashmir, saying any move to tinker with the state subject law will create Palestine-like situation in the state.
The leadership also termed the concern over Article 35-A shown by pro-Indian parties as mere rhetoric and gimmick and urged the pro-Indian politicians to join the pro-freedom ranks and play their role in resolving the long-pending issue of Kashmir.
In a statement, the leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik asked people to be ready for protest against any amendment or change in the state subject laws.
They said the plan to tinker with the Article 35-A, which gives special rights and privileges to the natives of Jammu and Kashmir, is a conspiracy to create a Palestine like situation in the state.
“The conspiracy has been hatched to change the demography of the Muslim majority state,” the leadership said, adding that the people of J&K would resist it tooth and nail if the state subject law is abrogated or any amendment made in it.
“We are in close contact with religious leaders, civil societies, transporters, businessmen, students, lawyers and other groups. They will be taken on board and a special delegation has been formulated to make a consensus after seeking their suggestions in this regard,” the JRL said. “We are watching the developments and soon a (course) of action and programme will be announced.”
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik appealed the lawyers, writers, scholars and other respected members of society to make people aware of the consequences of proposed repealing of the state subject law and make every possible effort to reach out to the international community to apprise them about the horrifying situation in Jammu Kashmir and its disputed status.
‘’We will safeguard the integrity and special status of the state at any cost,’’ the JRL said, adding, “BJP regime is working to sabotage the referendum process in the state.”
Attacking the ruling PDP for its failure over Article 35-A, JRL called the party an ally of RSS and said the PDP-BJP alliance is an “unholy nexus”.
