Nirmal Singh leads wreath laying ceremony of slain SOG man

Srinagar: J&K police on Sunday paid homage to slain SOG personnel who was killed by militants during an encounter in Hajin area of Bdanipora district early today.

The slain cop was identified as Zaheer Abbas Khan, a resident of Poonch.

The wreath laying ceremony was held at DPL Srinagar, a police statement said.

Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh led the ceremony to lay the floral wreaths on the body of the policeman.

Among others, the statement said, Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmad Khan, IG Traffic Jagjit Kumar, DIG CKR Ghulam Hassan Bhat, officers of Army/CRPF, SSsP and DySsP of the district were present.

Zaheer Abbas Khan is survived by wife, three minor children Mehtab Zaheer 10 years old, Manik Ahmad 08 years old and Sumaira Zaheer about 05 years old.

The statement said that police along with 13RR and 45 Bn CrPF launched a cordon and search operation in Mir Mohalla area of Bandipora district.

“During search operation, militants hiding in the area fired upon the joint search party. One police constable namely Zaheer Abbas Khan was injured during the encounter who was shifted to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries and achieved martyrdom,” the statement added.
