Promote nurseries, rare fruits: Dir horti Jmu tells officers

JAMMU: To take an overview of the plantation done under different schemes and other departmental activities of horticulture department, Director Horticulture Jammu, Anuradha Gupta visited Samba here on Friday, an official press note read.
According to the press note, the director conducted an extensive tour of Government Fruit Plant Nursery, Vijaypur and inspected various components under PMDP (Prime Minister’s Development Package) scheme like installation of solar pumping system, drip irrigation system, vermi compost unit, newly constructed approach paths as well as newly established mother blocks of Litchi, Peach and Pomegranate.
Director horticulture gave on spot instructions to the officers to promote the nursery as a demonstration unit on modern lines and promote rare fruits like Jamun, Galgal, Dates, Persimmon, etc., which are vanishing from the fields, the press note read.
The director also visited various orchards established by the farmers and checked activities being carried out under different centrally sponsored schemes.
She interacted with progressive orchardists and distributed Jackfruit seedlings among the farmers of village Nud of Samba.
Chief Horticulture Officer Samba, C L Sharma, gave a brief review of different components being taken up under various schemes in the district, the press note added.
