SRINAGAR: With eye on the next election in the year 2020, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) will conduct its first ever state executive meeting in Srinagar to discuss ways to strengthen the party in the Kashmir Valley.
According to BJP sources, the executive meeting will be held at SKICC, on the banks of Dal Lake, on October 29. The BJP general secretary Ram Madhav is expected to participate in the meeting besides Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s office (PMO), Jitendra Singh and national vice president and party in-charge of J&K Affairs, Avinash Rai Khanna.
“We have to strengthen the BJP in Kashmir,” senior BJP leader and member of legislative council Mohammad Yousuf Sofi said. “We are conducting the first ever executive meeting to discuss plans and strategize our plans to win the majority seats from all the three regions of Kashmir. We are planning for the 2020 election. We want this time our candidates from Kashmir should win at least 12 seats and we should be able to complete mission plus 44 in the next assembly elections”.
He said around 300 BJP delegates including MLAs, MLCs, district presidents, ministers, office bearers and senior leaders will participate in the executive meet.
“The party leadership will assess the work of the ministers and other party workers and leaders,” Sofi said. “They will assess the party strength on the grass root level, take reports from district presidents from their respective districts. They will listen to the ministers as to how funds were being utilized for developmental works,” he said.
Besides the BJP will also look to increase its base on the ground in Kashmir and discuss how funds will be raised for accelerating the party activities.
“We have a membership of three lakh people in Kashmir. We will like to increase it,” the BJP leader said.
BJP General Secretary, Ashok Kaul said that the ongoing situation in Kashmir will also be discussed. He said that a resolution will be adopted by the BJP at the conclusion of the state executive meet.”
“Before the executive meet, on October 28, BJP will hold an indoor meet of officer bearers at a PHE guest house near circuit house,” Kaul said.
“Around 50 BJP office bearers will meet on that day to discuss party issues,” he added.
Earlier, BJP held first-ever youth convention in Srinagar during which it was pledged by the party workers and leaders to defeat the “family rule” by bring BJP into power in the state.
