SRINAGAR: Violent clashes erupted in Soura area of the city after hair of an eleventh class student was allegedly cut by unidentified persons under mysterious circumstances Wednesday afternoon.
Scores of youth hit the streets after the news of the incident spread in the area and threw stones on government forces.
Family sources told Kashmir Reader that the incident happened when the girl’s mother had left the house to purchase bread for the evening tea. “Her attacker had put a tape on her mouth and tied her hands before cutting her hair,” family sources said. “She is still unconscious and is undergoing treatment the SKIMS.”
Residents alleged that police fired pellets, tear-smoke-shells and stun-grenades to disperse protesters. “Couple of protesters received minor injuries due to pellets,” a resident said over telephone.
Ayaz Rasool, Station House Officer of police station Soura said that a police party was going to seek information about the incident, but residents of the neighbourhood attacked them with stones. “No we did not use any pellet guns, all such claims are just allegations,” he said.
The hair of a 65-year-old-woman (name withheld) was also cut by some unknown persons on Tuesday evening in Bemina, family claimed. They said the incident happened at 7 p.m. when she was sitting inside her room. “Someone hit her with full force on her neck and she felt unconscious, (after which) her bun us cut,” one of the family members told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the victim raised hue and cry after regaining consciousness as she found her bun lying on the floor. “We reported the matter to police who arrived and took the entire hair saying that they need it,” he said.
