Srinagar: Locals of Awantipora claimed on Thursday they had caught an alleged braid chopper (burqa clad) in the town and police resorted to teargas shelling on locals on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.
“Soon as we heard about the incident a police party reached the spot and took the person in custody who was being ruthlessly beaten by people,” a police official in the Awantipora police station told Kashmir Reader. He added that the person is a resident of Noorpora Tral area and he is being questioned.
Locals alleged that police fired tear smoke shells on people and left with the “braid chopper.”
However the police official said that they only restored traffic on the highway.
