Srinagar: Scores of casual labourers and daily wagers on Wednesday staged a protest here in Press Enclave against government for not implementing the labour and wages policy in the state.
The protestors were demanding the implementation of the 7th-pay commission and a basic salary of Rs 18,000 rupees which according to them is their fundamental right.
The casual labourers said that authorities have failed to release their previous wages in different sectors of government. Mohammad Maqbool, state president of JK Coordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU), said, they are demanding comprehensive wage and regularisation policy for all temporary workers like casual, contract ,need based, Aganwadi and Asha workers and fixing of Rs18000 per month as minimum wage till regularization besides implementation of recent Supreme Court decision on ‘equal wages for equal work’ .
He also demanded parity in wages with the government of India employees in implementation of 7th pay commission and pension for all including temporary workers.
He demanded the government to change its “anti- working class policies”.
