Ganderbal: As the JKSPDC employees in Upper Sindh Hydro Electric Project in Kangan have gone on strike for the last 15 days, water accumulation in the turbine due to a snag has caused damage to it.
Sources said that water accumulated in the turbine section of the 105 MW power project causing damage to the cooling motors, panels and MIVs.
They said a snag in one of three de-watering pumps caused the outgoing water from tailrace of the power house to enter back and accumulated in the turbine section situated in the ground floor of the power house.
Fire tenders from local fire station rushed to the spot and helped in the dewatering, they said.
Ranjit Singh, president of the PDC daily wagers said that 250 daily wagers working in the power house are on strike to demand regularization.
He said authorities have temporarily arranged some need based workers from other sites to run the power house but they were unable to handle the job.
“The damage has been caused due to mishandling by untrained need based workers,” Singh said.
He said that the timely effort of the daily wagers prevented further loss as they deferred their strike and put their lives at risk to switch off the “draft tube value ” of the turbine section.
Muneeb Ahmad, Executive Engineer of the power house said that the water accumulation was caused due to some mechnical fault and will be looked into very soon to make power house operational within two or three days.
“We lack men power because of the the daily wagers strike as they have a big role in smooth functioning of the power house,” Ahmed said.
