Srinagar: The government on Tuesday appointed former director general prisons PL Gupta as chief vigilance commissioner in the State Vigilance Commission (SVC).
The post was lying vacant since the maiden Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Kuldeep Khoda, demitted office in February 2017.
The Governor issued an order through the Jammu and Kashmir General Administration Department (GAD), stating Gupta’s appointment.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 4(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Commission Act, 201 1 (Act No. 1 of 201, I), I, N.N. Vohra, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, hereby appoint P.L. Gupta, IPS (Retd.) as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner in the State Vigilance Commission,” the order reads.
The appointment of P L Gupta shall take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post in the State Vigilance Commission, as per the order.
In August, a selection panel headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had recommended Gupta, as chief vigilance commissioner of J&K.
Apart from Gupta, names of two retired IAS officers, Ashok Kumar Angurana and Sonali Kumar, were also in the panel of officers earlier shortlisted by the government for the top post.
Also, Vohra accorded approval to the appointment of former bureaucrat Gazzanfer Hussain as the Vigilance Commissioner of the commission.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 4(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Commission Act, 201 1 (Act No. 1 of 201 I), I, N.N. Vohra, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, hereby appoint Gazzanfer Hussain, IAS (Retd.) as the Vigilance Commissioner in the State Vigilance Commission,” said another order.
The appointment of Gazzanfer Hussain shall take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post in the State Vigilance Commission, read the order.
Gazzanfar, who retired in April this year as the Administrative Secretary of the Labour and Employment department, was also heading some key posts in the administration.
