Bijbehara: A day-long seminar on Prof Ghulam Muhammad Shad was held at Degree College Bijbehara on Monday.
Several speakers highlighted Prof Shad’s contribution to Kashmiri literature – poetry, prose and literary criticism, and beyond as Prof Shad wrote poetry in Persian and Urdu as well.
The seminar was conducted by Maraz Adbee Sangam with support from J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Government Degree College Bijbehara. In his inaugural address, Murtaza Shibli paid rich tributes to his father and applauded his steely resolve to sail against the currents. He described his father as anti-establishment and called him a beacon for resistance for people’s rights. Noted writer Ali Shaida talked about the strong currents of resistance in Prof Shad’s poetry and how they merit respect. Prof. Bashar Bashir criticised Prof Shad for some of his research work for want of plausible literary evidence and merit. Noted writer and critic Ghulam Nabi Aatish talked in detail about Shad’s Persian poetry.
