Shopian: A civilian was shot at and injured Monday evening in Kellar area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
The injured man has been identified as 40-year-old Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, a resident of Battemuran village in Kellar area.
A senior police official from the district confirmed the incident and said that the injured man has been shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital in Srinagar.
“He is stable, though. He has been shot in his legs,” the official said. “The militants called him outside his house and shot at him.”
Huge contingents of government forces were rushed to the area following the shootout, and searches were being carried out to nab the attackers.
Over the last fortnight or so, several civilians, including a woman, have been killed in similar incidents across the south Kashmir region.
At least two policemen have also fallen to the bullets of unidentified gunmen in police district Awantipora of south Kashmir.
