7 more arrested in Sopore for attack on mentally challenged man

Sopore: After 12 persons were arrested on Friday night for the mob assault on a 23-year-old mentally challenged man, Waseem Ahmed Tantray, in Mazbuq village on the outskirts of Sopore town, police arrested seven more accused in raids at their homes on Saturday night.
The Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore had said in a press conference on Saturday that 12 persons had been arrested and more arrests would follow.
“We have arrested 12 youth, who are identified from the videos being shared on social media, and an FIR, vide No. 302/2017 under Section 148, 149, 307 RPC, has been registered against the accused persons at police station Sopore. More arrests will follow soon”, SP Harmeet Singh Mehta told reporters.
A senior police official of Sopore said on Sunday that seven more persons had been arrested by Sopore police during a night raid.
A video of the incident where the mentally challenged man was being murderously assaulted had gone viral on social networking sites on Friday.
