Awantipora: A policeman travelling from Srinagar to Anantnag was thrashed by people in Checkote area of Awantipora after mistaking him for a braid chopper, police said. Three persons have been arrested for the assault.
The policeman, identified as Zakir Hussain Malik, son of Aman Ullah, resident of Tangdaar is currently posted in Anantnag.
Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora Mohammad Zahid told Kashmir Reader that they rescued Malik after getting information that people were beating one person to a pulp.
“A police party was soon rushed to the spot where they found about three to four hundred people were beating the man who was profusely bleeding.,” Zahid said, adding that they had to put great effort in rescuing the man who turned out to be a policeman.
The injured man was taken to hospital for medical check and later discharged.
Zahid said that the policemen had pleaded before the people that he was not a braid chopper and had gone to get an appointment for the surgery of his pregnant wife in a Srinagar hospital but nobody listened to him.
SSP informed that three persons were arrested in the assault case and many more have been identified.
A case FIR no 118/2017 has been registered in Police Station Awantipora.
He also requested people not to take law in their hands and cooperate with police.
