SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference on Saturday asked youth to show restraint while dealing with the miscreants attempting to chop braids (of women) and maintain discipline, saying those with vested interests are “trying their hard to malign our movement”.
A Hurriyat spokesperson said in a statement that youth dealing with the issue of braid chopping should follow the instructions of (Hurriyat chairman) Syed Ali Geelani and observe restraint.
He termed the incidents wherein many innocents were thrashed, including the one in Sopore where some people tried to burn alive a mentally unsound person, as “extreme unfortunate, sad and frightening”.
“It is a well-planned ploy to deviate our attention,” the spokesperson said. “In the crucial times, we need to take care of all this as conspiracies are being hatched to create chaos and anarchy in (the) society.”
“We have asked to constitute the local Mohalla committees and handover all suspected persons to credible members of committee for investigations, recording statements and for future course of action so (that) no innocent is implicated or guilty allowed to leave by authorities,” he said.
“No one should attack or deal with any suspected person as there are more chances that their associates and colleagues may take advantage of this and malign the situation as reported from several places.”
The Hurriyat spokesperson added, “We need to keep close vigil on such elements as they are desperate to spoil our sacred freedom movement and divine ethical values. These elements are trying hard to bring bad name to our cherished goal.”
Referring to Geelani’s literary work, his directives and speeches, the spokesperson said the resistance leader has always emphasised upon youth to develop a culture of obedience, discipline and follow moral and human values during protest demonstrations and while patrolling their localities.
