Jama’at’s aged Sopore member booked under PSA, once again

Sopore: The J&K government has booked an aged member of Jama’at-e-Islami J&K under notorious Public Safety Act (PSA) on Saturday.

A spokesperson of Jama’at told the Kashmir Reader that its long time member Sheikh Mohammad Yusuf was booked under PSA for fourth consecutive time.

“Sheikh is over 80-year-old member of Jama’at,” he said. “Despite the fact that J&K High Court quashed his two earlier PSAs, he has once again been booked under same charges on Saturday and lodged in Kupwara sub-jail,” the Jama’at spokesperson said.

Sheikh lives in Sopore town of Baramulla district and is a prominent public figure in the district. He was arrested in 2016.

No one from Sheikh’s family was available when this newspaper reached for more details in the case.
