SRINAGAR: Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Muhammad Yasin Malik, said on Friday that safeguarding the honour of women was important but attacking and hurting innocents in the name of fighting braid-chopping was gruesome and criminal.
In a statement, Malik appealed to people to show restraint and said that those attacking and injuring innocents in the name of braid-chopping were harming the “sacred cause” of Kashmiris and helping the “hidden enemy”.
Terming the attack on a mentally challenged person at Sopore as regrettable, Malik said, “We cannot lead our society to anarchy where there is no distinction between innocent and guilty.”
Emphasising on the need for unity to fight the menace of braid-chopping, Malik said, “We should enhance our society-based vigil but act with nobility, restraint and magnanimity. Our vigil should continue but under the command of elders and masjid committees. If during our vigil somebody suspicious is seen or caught, he should be brought to elders and masjid committee members and investigated properly, so that no innocent is harmed.”
