Sopore: Prominent educationist and nonagenarian mystic poet of north Kashmir Saifuddin Sopori, popularly known as Saifi Sopori passed away in his ancestral town on Thursday. He was suffering from old-age related issues and was not frequently moving around.
Sopori had tremendous command over Urdu language. His first poem was published in Khidmat daily way back in 1942. He later joined the education department and served in different capacities to strengthen the educational system in the Valley.
One of his poetic collections Sehra Sehra contains 183 poems, which have been critically acclaimed by top Urdu writers. Critics say that he was one of the finest Urdu poets Kashmir Valley has produced.
Adbi Markaz Kamraz, -a Sopore based cultural organization has condoled the death of Saifi Sopori and described it as a “big loss to the literary world”.
