Anantnag: A special police officer (SPO) was shot dead by suspected militants on Wednesday evening in Gutroo village on the outskirts of Tral town. The slain SPO has been identified as 35-year-old Haleem Gujree, son of Fateh Gujree, resident of Gutroo village.
Gutroo is a small village located between Satoora and Narastan areas of Tral in Pulwama district.
The incident took place at about 5:30 PM. A senior police official from Tral confirmed the killing while talking to Kashmir Reader over phone.
“Yes, the said SPO has been killed by militants,” the official said. He said the details will only be clear once the police reaches the village.
“We have sent a police party. How and where he was shot will get clear only after the police team reaches there,” the official said.
Local sources said that Gujree was shot dead inside his home.
“Militants barged into his home and fired multiple shots at him, killing him on the spot. He was taken to a nearby hospital but he was dead already,” a local source told Kashmir Reader.
