BARAMULLA: At least three army men were thrashed by a group of people in Sheeri area of Baramulla on Wednesday. Reports said that a group of people spotted three army men in civvies traveling in a bus near Sheeri market on Srinagar Muzafarabad road.
The people grew suspicious and searched their belongings only to find used batteries in their possession. The furious people forcibly disembarked the army men and thrashed them on the roadside. The people alleged that the three men were braid-choppers involved in several braid-chopping incidents
in the area. The trio was beaten to a pulp.
However, a team of Baramulla
police reached the spot and saved the soldiers from the mob’s clutches before shifting them to hospital for medical relief. The angry people said that they were roaming in a suspicious movement and were braid choppers. The police denied all the allegations and said the trio was going to Baramulla for repairing a search light. The trio belonged to the Territorial Army.
In the meantime, maximum shopkeepers downed their shops in the market and panic gripped the area for some time.
SSP Baramulla Imtiyaz Hussain said that at about 11:30 am some “miscreants” stopped a passenger bus near Sheeri and deboarded three army men and manhandled them.
“The trio was going to Baramulla for repairs of a search light when they were deboarded and thrashed,” SSP said. He said a FIR has been registered against the incident.
